What’s Inside Berkshire Hathaway’s Portfolio

Want to know what companies make up Warren Buffett’s stock portfolio within Berkshire Hathaway? It’s important to stay informed, as Buffett doesn’t simply follow a static investing strategy.

During the turbulent fourth quarter of 2022, Buffett took advantage of the dip and purchased an additional 333,856 shares of Apple, which is now the top holding in Berkshire’s portfolio by market value and the second largest by quantity of shares. Additionally, Berkshire increased its holdings in Louisiana Pacific, a company that manufactures building products and engineered wood components, as well as Paramount Global, the owner of the emerging streaming service Paramount+.

The conglomerate first acquired LPX shares in Q3 of 2022 and PARA shares in Q1 of 2022. Conversely, Berkshire reduced its Taiwan Semiconductor stake in the fourth quarter, only three months after obtaining shares in the Apple chip supplier. Taiwan Semiconductor is the largest contract chipmaker in the world. Berkshire maintained its positions in Occidental Petroleum while trimming its stake in Chevron. In 2022, Berkshire expanded its OXY and CVX holdings significantly as oil values skyrocketed.

The conglomerate added nearly 18 million shares of Occidental over the course of several days in March, according to public filings. This brought Berkshire’s stake in the company to roughly 23.5%. While the conglomerate was a significant seller of bank stocks in the fourth quarter, it left many of its largest and longest-held positions largely unaltered. These include Apple, Bank of America, Kraft Heinz, Coca-Cola, and American Express. In fact, Buffett has held shares in KO and AXP since Q1 of 2001.
